TITLE:  Graphic Designer

CLASSIFICATION:  Student

STARTING PAY/HOUR: Based on experience: Starting at $13.00/hr for Graphic Designer

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Graphic Design staff develops, creates, produces and evaluates all publications for department staff.  They assist with webpage design and maintenance.  Additionally, the Graphic Design staff serves as a photographer for various classes and events sponsored by Undergraduate Academic Affairs.

SUPERVISION:

The Graphic Design staff works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director for Educational Enrichment and works with other Undergraduate Academic Affairs staff members on various projects.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Publications

  • Design and produce flyers, brochures, posters, calendars, logos, etc. for department and division sponsored programs and events
  • Communicate with outside printers to ensure proper preparation of files

Websites

  • Assist with webpage design and maintenance

Photography and Videography

  • Serve as staff photographer or videographer for department-supported classes and events
  • Edit photos and videos

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain open communication with Undergraduate Academic Affairs staff
  • Establish and follow regular office hours
  • Keep office in professional working order
  • Assist with selection of new graphic designers

CONTACTS:

The Graphic Design staff will interact with professional staff in Undergraduate Academic Affairs and other Rutgers University departments.

CHALLENGES:

The Graphic Design staff will be challenged with publication and printing deadlines.  S/he must possess the ability to work with staff who are not versed in desktop publishing or website design.  S/he should also be organized and able to work creatively with limited direction.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Full-time matriculated Rutgers University student
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Must be available to work two consecutive semesters
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and breaks as needed
  • Skills strongly preferred include public relations experience and the ability to make decisions in stressful and challenging situations
  • Experience with IBM computers and strong experience in IBM desktop publishing.  Preferred experience with:  Photo and video editing, Illustrator, In Design, Dreamweaver, Freehand, photography, and HTML

Paid Summer Interns at Loeb Enterprises NYC

Loeb Enterprises is a New York-based private equity, venture capital and business development lab, focused on cultivating opportunities in emerging media and consumer marketing. Loeb Enterprises maintains a team of world-class operators, direct marketing executives and technologists that apply themselves to a select number of strategically important businesses each year. These companies vary by stage—from pure startups to mature businesses in need of reinvention.

We seek two summer interns. Our ideal candidate is someone who walks into a room of people and can’t leave without making a few friends. Someone who is obsessed with social media and is creative and thoughtful when interacting with online communities and building relationships. Interns will work with a team of four experienced designers and will be tasked with junior level assignments. You will get broad experience designing for all of our departments.

What you will learn:
· How to create a long term social media plan and marketing calendar.
· How to track social media analytics using HootSuite, Bit.ly, and other software, and report results and new ideas to our marketing team.
· How to create compelling content and get it shared by influencers.
· Techniques to create viral loops between our Facebook Page, twitter, and blog accounts
· Much more – your will work closely with our Director of Marketing and other team leaders.

What we Require:
· Background in Marketing, Communication, Graphic Design, or other related discipline.
· Highly organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.

Summer Internship at Mirrorball

Mirrorball is seeking a design student for an immersive internship.  As a Mirrorballer, you’ll be in a fast-paced environment working on creative projects for some of the industry’s sexiest brands. Applicant must be an active collaborator who embraces thinking outside of the box. A strong understanding of design fundamentals with an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe creative suite is required. Photoshop rendering, Powerpoint, and Keynote experience is a plus. Must be 21 or over.

Seeking Autumn Fellows and Intern

Rhizome is offering a range of professional development opportunities for the fall semester: an Editorial Fellowship, an ArtBase Curatorial Fellowship, and a Program Internship. Each of these individuals will join a small team and play a central role in shaping the organization and its core program as it deepens its collections and expands its program internationally.

Through its internship and fellowship programs, Rhizome has a track record in cultivating individuals who have gone on to play an important role in the fields of art and technology.

1) EDITORIAL FELLOWSHIP

The Editorial Fellowship is a unique opportunity for a developing writer with a dedication to the fields of contemporary art and technology to further develop professional skills and build up a portfolio seen by a large audience.

The Fellow will spend 50% of their time researching and writing articles, and 50% working on related editorial tasks. They may edit and fact-check other writers’ contributions, contribute to art direction decisions, help manage the posting process, and help with ongoing administrative tasks such as maintaining the editorial calendar and producing Rhizome’s weekly newsletter.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Editorial Fellow may work remotely, but must commit to 16 hours of work per week, for 3-4 months, beginning in fall 2013. This position is unpaid, but academic credit may be arranged and is highly encouraged. The candidate must have very strong writing, editing, and analytical skills, and very high internet literacy. They must also have a high level of familiarity with contemporary art and technology. Education or advanced experience beyond the undergraduate level is preferred.

2) ARTBASE CURATORIAL FELLOWSHIP

The ArtBase Curatorial Fellowship is an ideal opportunity for a graduate-level researcher in a field such as curatorial studies or contemporary art history to shape the development of an important archive of new media art. The Fellow will conduct research, including artist interviews by email and in-person, in order to enrich the public understanding of works in the ArtBase. They will write new descriptions based on primary-source research, as well as identifying gaps and make recommendations about artists to approach for future inclusion.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Curatorial Fellow must be based in New York and must be able to commit to 16 hours of work per week, for 3-4 months, beginning September 15, 2013. This position is unpaid, but academic credit may be arranged and is highly encouraged. The Curatorial Fellow will work directly with artists and be overseen by senior Rhizome staff. Education or advanced experience beyond the undergraduate level is preferred. Experience with CollectiveAccess is a plus.

3) PROGRAM INTERNSHIP

Rhizome seeks a highly organized, responsible and mature Program Intern. Responsibilities will vary and engage with all areas of the organization: assisting with the daily administrative upkeep; research and production support of the Rhizome website; coordination of organizational projects; correspondence with artists, members, and press; management of various social media platforms and more. Interns must be familiar with contemporary art and savvy with the web and new technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Program Intern must be based in New York and must be able to commit to 16 hours of work per week, for 3-4 months, beginning September 15, 2013. This position is unpaid, but academic credit may be arranged. Candidates must be possess strong administration and organization skills, and a confident, proactive and problem-solving nature. As this position will provide a broad entry point into the workings of a non-profit, a positive disposition and willingness to undertake any task with a positive attitude is key. Self-starting candidates who can spot areas to be improved in the organization, and set about improving them, will thrive. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required, and other creative software (Adobe CS i.e.) is a benefit.

Signs seeks on-campus intern

Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, the preeminent academic journal of women’s and gender studies, seeks an art intern. Art interns work on the cover design, update the website and work on images that appear in the journal. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and/or InDesign is required. Web programming skills is preferred. Preference is given to students with an interest in scholarship on issues of gender, race, nation, class, and/or sexuality.

Art interns are responsible for a variety of tasks, which may include: Designing the cover; developing brochures and other promotional materials; researching the work of contemporary women artists and proposing cover art; updating the Signs website; preparing images for publication; evaluating artwork submitted to the journal and corresponding with artists.

Internships are five hours per week.
The position is unpaid.
