Christine Hughes
Endangered Languages

Christine Hughes is a student at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, majoring in Visual Arts and specializing in Design. Originally from Vineland, New Jersey, she has a long list of achievements, Christine is most proud of unofficially breaking the world record for the number of sneezes in under a minute. In addition to graphic design, Christine also enjoys reading, writing poetry, traveling, other artistic pursuits, hanging out with friends, fueling the revolution, and giving her dog tummy rubs.

Christine’s thesis project focuses on endangered and dying languages – specifically Hawaiian. While we use languages every day, many around the world are at risk of losing their ways of communication, and even their way of life. Her project aims to educate visitors about the Hawaiian language and its history under United States occupation. This project aims to show how a language is the foundation of a culture and what could happen to that culture when their language is taken away.
